Food plot clearing creates clean, accessible openings in wooded areas where you can plant forage crops that attract deer, turkey, and other game. Forestry mulching clears the brush and leaves the ground ready for lime, fertilizer, and seed.

The Problem

What You're Dealing With

Serious hunters know that food plots are one of the most effective ways to attract and hold deer on your property. But creating a food plot in the woods means clearing brush, saplings, and undergrowth from an area that's been untouched for years. Hand clearing is slow, exhausting, and leaves you with piles of debris to deal with.

Many Knox and Licking County hunting land owners want food plots but don't have the equipment to clear the ground. Renting a skid steer and brush cutter works for open field edges, but wooded food plot sites need heavier equipment that can handle trees and dense brush.

Who This Is For

Is This Service Right for You?

Food plot clearing is for hunting land owners who want to create productive food plot openings in wooded areas. Whether you're planting clover, brassicas, chicory, or a cereal grain blend, the plot needs to be cleared before you can plant.

We work with hunters across Knox, Licking, Delaware, Franklin, and Morrow counties who are improving their hunting properties. Whether you need a single half-acre plot or multiple plots across a larger property, we clear the ground and leave it ready for planting.

Our Approach

How We Handle It

We drive the skid steer into the wooded area and mulch everything in the food plot footprint. Brush, saplings, small trees, and undergrowth get ground into mulch right where they stand. The result is a clean opening with a layer of wood chips on the ground.

For food plots, we recommend clearing in late summer or early fall so you can lime, fertilize, and plant before the growing season. The mulch layer can be left in place for plots that will be no-till planted, or raked aside if you plan to disk the soil.

Why Forestry Mulching

Why This Method Beats the Alternatives

Hand clearing a food plot takes days of hard labor with chainsaws and brush cutters, and you still have piles of debris to burn or haul. A bulldozer clears fast but tears up the soil and leaves stumps and root balls.

Forestry mulching clears the plot in hours, leaves the soil intact, and suppresses regrowth with the mulch layer. The opening looks natural from day one — no burn scars, no pushed-over stumps, no construction-zone appearance. By the first fall, the plot is producing forage and deer are using it.

What to Expect

Your Experience from Quote to Completion

Food plot projects start with a conversation about where you want the plots, how large, and what you're planting. We can help with placement — south-facing slopes, edges of timber stands, and travel corridors between bedding and feeding areas are all good locations.

On clearing day, we work through the wooded area to your food plot site and clear the footprint you've specified. Most food plot clearings take a few hours per plot. For multiple plots on a larger property, we can clear several in a single day.

The End Result

What Your Property Looks Like After

Your food plot site is cleared to bare mulch, ready for soil amendments and seed. The opening looks natural — a clean break in the canopy surrounded by standing timber. Within the first growing season after planting, the plot is producing forage that attracts deer, turkey, and other game. The surrounding mulch suppresses weeds and brush encroachment from the edges.
