What to Expect from an On-Site Quote

A step-by-step look at what happens when Wild Edge Brush Clearing visits your Central Ohio property for a free estimate.

Getting an Accurate Quote Starts with a Conversation

If you've never hired a forestry mulching company before, the quoting process might feel unfamiliar. Unlike calling a lawn care service where pricing is straightforward, land clearing involves variables — acreage, terrain, vegetation type and density, access, and your goals for the property. That's why we do on-site estimates for most jobs.

Here's exactly what the process looks like from start to finish.

Step 1: Schedule Your Estimate

There are two ways to get started:

  • Website form — Fill out the quote request form on our website. You'll enter your name, phone, email, property address, estimated acreage, and a description of what you want cleared. You can also select terrain and brush density tiers to get an instant ballpark estimate before we even visit.
  • Phone call — Call us at (740) 358-8904. We'll ask the same basic questions and schedule a visit.

We'll confirm a date and time window, usually within a few days. We serve Knox, Licking, Delaware, Franklin, and Morrow counties, and we're based in Centerburg, so travel time to most properties is under an hour.

Helpful tip: If you can send a few photos of the property before the visit — even cell phone shots — it helps us come prepared.

Step 2: The Site Visit

We'll arrive at the scheduled time and walk the property with you. This is a collaborative conversation, not a sales pitch. Plan for 30-60 minutes depending on the size of the property.

  • We walk together. You show us the areas you want cleared, and we'll ask questions as we go.
  • Point out what stays. If there are trees or features you want preserved, or areas we should avoid, show us during the walkthrough.
  • Discuss your goals. Are you reclaiming pasture? Clearing a building site? Creating food plots for hunting? Pushing back a tree line? The end goal affects how we approach the work.

You don't need to prepare anything special. Wear shoes you're comfortable walking through brush in, and if certain areas are hard to reach, just describe what's there — we may use aerial imagery to supplement what we can see on foot.

Step 3: What We're Evaluating

During the walkthrough, we're assessing several factors that directly affect pricing:

Terrain

  • Tier 1 — Easy: Flat or gently rolling ground with good access. Common in western parts of our service area like Delaware and Franklin counties.
  • Tier 2 — Moderate: Some slopes, uneven ground, or limited maneuverability. Typical of many Knox County and Licking County properties.
  • Tier 3 — Difficult: Steep hillsides, ravines, limited access, or soft/wet ground. Slows production significantly.

Brush Density

  • Tier 1 — Light: You can walk through it. Scattered brush, saplings under 2 inches, overgrown grass with some woody growth.
  • Tier 2 — Moderate: Hard to push through. Dense saplings, thick honeysuckle or multiflora rose, mixed brush up to 4-6 inches.
  • Tier 3 — Heavy: Impassable. Solid walls of vegetation, mature invasive thickets, trees up to 8 inches packed together.

Other Factors

  • Access points — Where can the skid steer enter? Are there gates, narrow paths, or obstacles?
  • Obstacles — Hidden hazards like old fence wire, buried debris, or rock outcroppings.
  • Utilities — Septic systems, gas meters, electrical junctions, and other utilities that may run through the property.
  • Trees to preserve — Selective clearing around keeper trees requires more precise work.
  • Species identification — Knowing whether it's honeysuckle, multiflora rose, or native species helps us advise on regrowth management.

Step 4: How We Measure

For most residential properties, the visual walkthrough gives us what we need. For larger or more complex projects, we may also reference aerial imagery, GPS mapping tools, or county parcel data from Knox, Licking, Delaware, Franklin, and Morrow county GIS records. These tools supplement the walkthrough — there's no substitute for being on the ground and talking with the property owner.

Step 5: How Pricing Works

Our pricing is based on three factors: acreage, terrain tier, and brush density tier. We calculate productivity based on what the machine can clear per day, adjusted for terrain and density. That determines the number of days on site, which is multiplied by a daily rate. A flat mobilization fee covers equipment transport.

The result is a fixed-price quote — not an hourly estimate, not a "we'll see how it goes" number. You know the total cost before any work begins, and that number doesn't change unless you add to the scope.

Step 6: Receiving Your Quote

For straightforward jobs, you'll often have a quote the same day. More complex projects may take up to 48 hours.

Your quote will include:

  • Total price (fixed, all-inclusive)
  • Estimated days on site
  • Description of the work scope
  • Any notes about access, scheduling, or recommendations

We deliver quotes by email so you have a written record.

No Obligation, No Pressure

The on-site estimate is completely free, and there is zero obligation to proceed. We won't follow up with aggressive sales calls or pressure tactics. This is an investment in your property, and we want you to make the decision that's right for you on your own timeline.

Step 7: After You Approve

Once you decide to move forward:

  1. Scheduling — We'll find a date that works for both sides. We stay busy year-round, so booking early helps secure your preferred date. We may also need to factor in weather and ground conditions — if the ground is too wet, too dry, or otherwise not ideal, we'll work with you to find a better window.
  2. Prep instructions — We'll send you a preparation checklist covering boundary marking, item removal, utility line location (call 811), and neighbor notification. We have a full preparation guide if you'd like to read ahead.
  3. Confirmation — We'll confirm the date a few days before and provide an arrival time window.
  4. Clearing day — We show up, do a final confirmation of what's on the quote, and get to work. Most residential jobs in Central Ohio are completed in 1-3 days.

That's the entire process — from first contact to cleared land. No complexity, no hidden steps, no surprises.
